The Lone Ranger and Breaking Bad actor Saginaw Grant dies aged 85

Actor Saginaw Grant has died at age 85.

The star, who played character roles in various different TV shows and films, died of natural causes at his care home in California, his publicist has said.

She explained: ‘He loved both Oklahoma and LA. He made his home here as an actor, but he never forgot his roots in Oklahoma. He remained a fan of the Sooner Nation.’

The Native American actor was known for his roles in The Lone Ranger, The World’s Fastest Indian, Breaking Bad and community.

From 2012 onwards, Grant also served on the American Indian Advisory Board at the San Diego International Film Festival.

Born in Pawnee, Oklaholma, Grant first served in the US Marine Corps and was a veteran of the Korean War.

He began acting in the 1980s and was awarded the American Legacy Award from the San Diego Film Festival and the lifetime achievement award from the Oceanside Cultural Arts Foundation.

Tributes have poured in for the late actor from fans and friends with one writing on Twitter: ‘Sad to hear the passing of Native American actor Saginaw Grant. I was lucky enough to meet him and enjoy his birthday when he visited NZ a few years ago. His words of wisdom made me cry. Special man, may he R.I.P.’

Another added: ‘Deeply saddened to hear that Saginaw Grant has journeyed home. He was truly one of the kindest and most patient humans. Prayers going up for all those whose lives he touched, his family and friends.’

One more said: ‘That’s so sad such great loss. I loved #SaginawGrant. May he return to the stars.’
