WWE SmackDown Commentator Pat McAfee Gives a Subtle Shout-Out to Olympic Shooting Gold Medalist

On this week’s episode of WWE SmackDown, Pat McAfee proved why he’s the right man for the job. With a few months of experience behind the announcer’s desk, he made a remarkable call during Rey Mysterio vs Jimmy Uso’s clash. The former NXT superstar gave a subtle shout-out to Tokyo Olympics 2020 gold medalist Vincent Hancock.

At the Tokyo Olympics 2020, American skeet shooter Vincent Hancock won gold. Alongside female skeet shooter Amber English, the duo brought two gold medals and a ton of pride to the USA. To pay homage to their achievement, WWE commentator Pat McAfee made a remarkable call.

During Rey Mysterio vs Jimmy Uso’s clash on SmackDown, the luchador delivered a dropkick to keep Uso from entering the ring. McAfee compared the dropkick to Vincent Hancock’s shooting. He said, “Delivering a shot almost as accurate as Vincent Hancock in skeet shooting, Rey Mysterio.”

While McAfee posted the clip on his Instagram story, the gold medalist responded to it on his own Instagram story. Saying, “I’ve officially made it…. Pat McAfee is the best,” Hancock basically thanked the former NFL kicker for the shout-out.

The call by McAfee wasn’t just remarkable but a true testament to his improvement alongside Michael Cole. Not only has he added a unique voice to the SmackDown broadcast team, he has even revitalised Cole’s career. As for Vincent Hancock, he celebrates not just a gold medal but also a shout-out from one of the most popular names in wrestling currently.

Who is Vincent Hancock?

At the Tokyo Olympics 2020, 32-year-old Vincent Hancock added a gold to the USA’s incredible medal tally. He also added a gold to his own personal tally, and makes it three gold medals in four Olympic Games. He won gold in Beijing 2008, London 2012 and now in Tokyo. Hancock finished 15th in Rio 2016, but redeemed himself this year in Tokyo.

Alongside him was female skeet shooter, Amber English. She beat out Italy’s Diana Bicosi and China’s Wei Ming to bring gold back to her home state of Colorado. Hancock defeated Denmark’s Jesper Hansen and Kuwait’s Abdullah Alrashidi, leaving them to take silver and bronze, respectively.

With these marquee victories, USA stands at the third place in the medal tally behind Japan and China.
