Criminal Minds star Paget Brewster has given an update on the previously announced revival of the TV series, revealing that she believes it is ‘dead’ and no longer going ahead.
Earlier this year, it was reported that a revival of Criminal Minds was in development at Paramount Plus.
According to the report, the new series would have seen original members of the cast reprise their roles, after the show concluded in February 2020 after 15 years on air. Representatives for Paramount Plus, ABC Signature and showrunner Erica Messer declined to comment at the time.
While fans of the procedural would have been excited to see it return, according to Paget, who was introduced as supervisory special agent Emily Prentiss in season two, there doesn’t seem to be much chance of a reboot in future.
When asked on Twitter whether she had any news on the revival, the actor replied: ‘No, and sadly, we think it’s dead.
‘I’ll let you know if there is any progress but it seems unlikely. Which is a bummer.’
Several fans expressed their huge disappointment over Paget’s update, with one writing: ‘I would like to apologize to my family in advance for the fact that I will not be able to function for the next 3-5 business years because of this harrowing news.’
Another Twitter user said that while they were ‘disappointed’, they weren’t ‘surprised’.
‘When they announced it, but then we heard no follow up, I suspected something wasn’t working out,’ they said. ‘I really hope they managed to get issues resolved and move forward.’
‘This just shattered my heart. praying that somehow it still happens!!!! We need the reboot!!!’ someone else wrote.
Criminal Minds, which premiered on CBS in September 2005, follows a group of people who work in the Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU) in the FBI, analysing the behaviour of criminals while working on cases.

Paget’s character Emily was eventually promoted to unit chief, having previously left the department to take up a position in the Interpol office in London.
Paget, who previously starred as Kathy on Friends, also appeared in the Criminal Minds spin-off Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders, which aired from 2016 until 2017.
