Nicola Sturgeon’s Covid rule flouting sister claims she was only maskless on train to ‘eat sandwich’

NICOLA Sturgeon’s rule break sister today said she was only maskless on a train to munch a sandwich.

Gill Sturgeon, 46, refused to apologise for flouting Covid curbs, wrongly insisting she did nothing wrong.

But ScotRail confirmed eating is currently banned on services, and masks on public transport are mandatory.

Defending herself on Facebook after a day in Edinburgh with girl pals, she wrote: “I was on a train. Sitting down eating a sandwich. Took mask off for that. Nowhere near anyone.”

Gill, from Irvine, Ayrshire, sparked a furious backlash after sharing a selfie on Facebook without a covering as she travelled to Edinburgh to see pals.

In the post on Facebook, Gill wrote: “Enroute to Edinburgh. Pin curls in … fingers crossed it’s good when I bring them out. Last day for liquid foundation folks.”

Yesterday, the First Minister’s rule breaking sis was warned to toe the line as critics slated her for flouting public transport face mask laws.

Gill provoked fury when she mistakenly insisted she didn’t need to wear a covering while seated on a train to Edinburgh.

And the mum-of-two, whose sibling Nicola imposed the curbs, didn’t back down when their mum Joan, 69, pulled her up over the blunder.

Gill rebuffed the suggestion she needed a covering, replying to her mum: “Not when sitting you don’t x.”

Former councillor Joan replied: “Didn’t know that!” before Gill told her: “You do now.”

Gill sparked further fury by admitting she accidentally sat in a disabled seat before taking Saturday’s selfie without a face shield.

The First Minister’s spokesperson had called it a “momentary lapse”.

The government said masks can be removed on trains to eat “where reasonably necessary”.
