Life on a farm isn’t always smooth-sailing, as Our Yorkshire Farm star Amanda Owen revealed when she shared that a headbutting incident with a sheep had resulted in her gaining a black eye.

Amanda Owen, a shepherdess and writer, lives in the Yorkshire Dales with her husband Clive Owen and their nine children, where she works on Ravenseat Farm.

Amanda, who appears in Channel 5 programme Our Yorkshire Farm with the rest of her family, regularly shares insights on what life on a farm is really like on her Instagram account which boasts 379k followers.

The 46-year-old recently shared a video of herself shearing a sheep, with the last frame of the clip showing her with a black eye.

‘Eat, sleep, sheep, repeat. (Part II),’ she wrote in the caption, before adding: ‘*Actually I’ve been out of action…the very last frame might enlighten*’.

In another Instagram post, she shared several selfies showing her black eye, with the last photo showing her lying down and icing her injury.

‘Injured in the line of duty. *Head-butted by a sheep*,’ she wrote in the caption.

Several Instagram users sympathised with her painful injury, with one commenting: ‘Ouch hope it isn’t too painful.’

‘Oooh! Bet that hurt… get well soon,’ another said, while someone else wrote: ‘Get well soon. Sounds horrendous and painful.’

Earlier this year, Amanda appeared on This Morning where she spoke to Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield about what it was like running her farm and homeschooling her children during lockdown.

The shepherdess, who appeared in the 2011 ITV documentary The Dales with her family, explained that she doesn’t pressure her children saying that they ‘have to make it up as we go along’.

‘I know there are some parents who will dress their kids up in school uniform and sit them there from nine until three, but I’m not a big believer in too much screen time,’ she said.

‘It’s there to guide them, give them an idea of what the topics are and if they need help they can talk to the teachers.’

Several viewers praised Amanda for her no-pressure approach, with one saying: ‘Yorkshire Shepherdess always talks sense and is a great mum.’

Our Yorkshire Farm is available to watch on Channel 5.
