WOW! One Punch KO by Eumir Marcial Secures a Guaranteed Medal in Boxing for Philippines

The Philippines has secured another medal at the Tokyo Olympics 202o as Pinoy native Eumir Marcial advanced to the semi-finals of the event. He defeated Armenia’s Arman Darchinyan in the quarter-finals. The contest didn’t even last a minute, as Marcial dropped his opponent early in the fight.

The win has secured the Philippines at least a bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics 2020. He will face Ukrainian Oleksandr Khyzhniak in the semi-finals and look to keep his fairy tale story going. Marcial also earned a T/KO finish in his round of 16 clash against Younes Nemouchi.

Marcial has previously won IBO Junior world championships in 2011. He had won gold in his weight class at the 2015 Southeast Asian games. The Pinoy boxer hoped to make his mark at the 2016 Rio Olympics. But, unfortunately, he couldn’t qualify for that event that term.

Marcial turned pro in 2020 and he signed with Manny Pacquiao’s MP Promotions. However, he wanted to keep representing his nation as well. He had previously promised his father about his wish to participate in the Olympics. His dreams became a reality when Marcial finally qualified for the Tokyo Olympics in 2020.

Can Eumir Marcial make a run for the gold?

The Filipino certainly has a ton of experience under his belt in representing his country. Also, the fact that he has turned pro recently has helped him improve further. However, he will have a tough opponent in hand as he faces Khyzhniak in the semis.

Khyzhniak has completely dominated both of his opponents. He has won 9 out of the total 10 rounds in his last 2 fights. The Ukrainian will look to keep his rhythm going and build on his excellent recent performances.

However, if Marcial can keep his momentum going, he is a tough outing for anybody he faces. He certainly has some genuine power in his hands as seen in his last 2 outings. The Filipino knocked both his opponents out.

Hence, he will certainly look to keep the streak going. And having already secured a bronze medal, Marcial will look to better that and shoot for the gold with a win in the semi-finals at the Tokyo Olympics 2020.
