Dan Walker has opened up about returning to church and being able to sing along to the hymns after lockdown restrictions eased, describing it as ‘wonderful.’
The BBC Breakfast host, who’s currently hosting the BBC’s Olympics coverage alongside stars like Clare Balding and Alex Scott, was over the moon to be able to return, after singing was banned in places of worship due to the pandemic.
He wrote on Instagram: ‘I hope you’ve all had a lovely Sunday.
‘I went to church this morning and was able to sing – out loud and with other people – for the first time in 18 months.
‘It was wonderful’.
Places of worship reopened earlier this year after the third lockdown in England, but there were specific rules about how services should be conducted.
It was advised that there should be no communal singing indoors to reduce the risk of transmission.
However, since July 19, many Covid-19 restrictions in the UK have been relaxed, including social distancing and the mandatory use of face masks.
Dan, 44, has been a staple on our TV screens recently, as he hosts the Olympics coverage on the BBC and, before it went on a break, BBC Breakfast.
The star has long been known for his feud with former Good Morning Britain host Piers Morgan, with the pair most recently butting heads over Ben Stokes’ break from cricket to focus on his mental health.
However, Dan recently admitted that, despite all their feuds, he misses Piers.

When asked about his rivalry with Piers, 56, Dan said: ‘We’re okay. I sometimes miss the back and forth – we had a little ding dong about Emma Radecanu on social media.’
Speaking to The Sun’s TV Mag, he continued: ‘Him just pontificating about how she should have acted and what was going on in her head, so I just asked him what he would have felt if she’d stormed off in a huff.’

Dan added that he ‘thought it was healthy for both programmes’, stating: ‘I never shied away from a bit of competition and it’s good, it keeps you on your toes as well.’
However, he said that he doesn’t ‘miss it too much’ as he reckons ‘we’ll see him back on a screen sometime soon’.
We don’t doubt it.
