Fans Continue to Voice Against Sha’Carri Richardson for Tweet Ahead of Tokyo Olympics Final

Twitter is arguably one of the most engaging social media platforms available today. And that certainly holds true for the ongoing Tokyo Olympics. With multiple events taking place on a single day, fans and athletes become one on the platform as they share their thoughts and opinions.

While some of those engagements work, there are some which don’t rub off well with the fans. And American sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson finds herself on the latter of this spectrum. While the 21-year-old misses the Games this year, she posted a tweet which did not garner the best of reactions from fans.

Richardson posted several quick times during 2021 in various 100m events. In April this year, Richardson clocked 10.72s in the Miramar Invitational athletics meet held in Florida. Later in the year, the 21-year-old qualified for the Tokyo Olympics by setting a time of 10.86s in the US Olympic trials.

However, a positive test for marijuana in June forced her to withdraw from the Games. After the Olympic trials, fans across the world marked the American as a favorite the category despite her young age of 21.

It seems she let her success go to her head despite not competing at the Olympics. A day before the women’s 100m final, she sent a tweet asking her fans if they missed her presence in Tokyo. After she faced some negative tweets, she hit back at some of those fans with another tweet.

While some fans lauded her for standing up to them, others took it as a provocation to continue their tirade. With some fans questioning her top billing, others mentioned they would rather block Richardson.

Can you demonstrate her being the best for me. A novice who has never won a title, who is who is the third fastest this year.
The reigning Olympic champion who is faster than Richardson and the greatest of all time who is the fastest woman alive. Please school me I’m waiting.

Probably should block her. My guess is she’s talkin s**t to get attention from you or others because you have a verified account. Trying to self promote by any means.

I think there is a much better way to give feedback but not all of what you tweeted was inaccurate.

Despite her breaking the rules, I wanted her to succeed because she has a great story. Her current approach is distasteful and likely won’t serve her well if it continues.

Richardson congratulated Jamaican sprinters for their dominance in the final

Jamaica’s Elaine Thompson-Herah, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and Shericka Jackson dominated the women’s 100m final on Sunday. In between her battle with some fans on Twitter, Richardson congratulated them for their dominance in the final.

She tweeted, “Congratulations to the ladies of Jamaica for the clean sweep. Powerful, strong black women dominating the sport.”

While some may argue Richardson was a strong medal contender in Tokyo, fans can only wonder if that was true.
