Love Island 2021: Emotional Millie Court moment compared to Jesus’ Last Supper and we cannot unsee

When we tell you we were emotional… (Picture: ITV)

Love Island is getting the proper meme treatment and while the scenes of heartbreak from the Islanders are enough to tear us apart, the social media reaction from viewers is lifting our spirits to no ends.

We’re reaching the pointy end of the competition and feelings are well and truly being caught, with the latest couple to face a heart-wrenching test seemingly being Liam Reardon and Millie Court.

Millie called it quits with Liam in tense scenes on Sunday night’s episode, after he returned from Casa Amor a single lad – but with some baggage in the form of Lillie Haynes who went on a lunch with Millie and spilled the tea on what happened between her and Liam in the alternate villa.

Distraught by Liam’s actions and insisting she can no longer trust him, Millie gathered her girls together to pass on what she had learnt during her conversation, saying: ‘He just lied – he played it down obviously.’

As she sat on the villa’s swing, Kaz Kamwi, Faye Winter, Chloe Burrows, Liberty Poole and Abigail Rawlings gathered around her and wrapped Millie up in a big hug, as she sat there in tears following her lunch with Lillie.

While it’s enough to have us calling our pals and telling them how much we love them, it was also fodder for some brilliant memes, our dark hearts must admit.

The one that takes the take? The comparison of the emotional scenes to Leonardo da Vinci’s The Last Supper, with Jesus Christ surrounded by his disciples mirroring the pose of the ladies on the swing.

Hey, when a comparison like this emerges you can’t begrudge us a giggle, albeit blasphemous.

The meme was created by Ciara Knight, who dubbed this brilliant artwork ‘The Last Straw’, and placed the women perfectly at the famous table with Millie at the, rightful, centre.

The moment was re-shared by pop culture account Love Of Huns which wrote: ‘Hang this is in the National Portrait Gallery immediately.’

Metro.co.uk’s Ellen Scott was also feeling the meme love as she compared the now-iconic scene to the similarly emotional moment in Midsommar which saw May Queen Dani (Florence Pugh) comforted by her ladies – who are dramatically mimicking her cries in support – after catching boyfriend Christian (Jack Reynor) engaging in a sex ritual in the horror film.

Look, we said the meme game was strong last night.

But what an evening it was, as Millie later added of Liam’s Casa Amor dalliance in the Beach Hut: ‘I don’t deserve this.

‘I wouldn’t let this happen in the outside world, why would I let it happen in here?’

Millie then went for a chat with Liam on the terrace, where she decided it was time to end things.

After listening to his excuses, she declared: ‘I personally don’t think I can go forward with this.

‘You’ve hurt me and I don’t trust you. I think you need to respect that decision.’

Will Liam be able to win her back? Who cares – bring us the memes.

Love Island returns 9pm on ITV2.
