Tom Daley: Age, husband, children and are his knitting patterns online?

Tom Daley is making a splash for more than his diving during the Olympics.

The athlete, who recently won gold during the Tokyo Games, was spotted working on a purple and cream-coloured design over the weekend, as he soaked in the action at the women’s 3m springboard final.

His totally wholesome way to pass the time ended up being shown on BBC Sport’s coverage of the event, although it’s certainly no secret as Tom has proudly shown off his designs in the past.

On July 26, he captured his first ever Olympic gold medal during the 10m synchronised platform event alongside Matty Lee, and he celebrated the win by making himself a pouch for the medal.

He said at the time: ‘Learning to knit and crochet has helped me so much through these Olympics and we won GOLD yesterday. I made a little medal case too! YAY!’

His next diving event will be the individual 10m platform, while his last for this year’s Olympics is the diving programme in Tokyo.

With that said, let’s get to know Tom a little better.

How old is Tom Daley?

Tom is 27 years old, and he was just 12 – three years below the usual age – when he was allowed to compete at the 2007 Australian Youth Olympic Festival.

He won silver alongside Callum Johnstone in the 10m synchronised-diving final.

Who is Tom Daley’s husband and how many children do they have?

Tom started dating Dustin Lance Black around 2013, and they got engaged in 2015 before tying the knot two years later.

Their son Robbie was born in June 2018, and the diver recently suggested the universe had made him wait to become a father before he won Olympic gold.

He said: ‘It’s kind of unbelievable. I thought I was going to win an Olympic gold medal in Rio [in 2016] and that turned out the complete opposite by a long shot, and it was my husband who said to me that my story wasn’t finished and that my son or child – we didn’t know at the time – needed to be there to watch me win an Olympic gold medal.’

They could expand their family in the near future, as Tom’s son told him during a chat with Attitude that he wants siblings.

‘You want a brother and a sister? We’ve always said we want a big family. Definitely after the Olympics at some point, I’m sure we will,’ he revealed.

Dustin himself is a director and Oscar-winning screenwriter, having worked on the likes of Pedro, Virginia and Milk, with the latter earning him the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay.

Tom keeps his fans and fellow knitters up to date with all his work on Instagram at @madewithlovebytomdaley, which boasts around 425,000 followers.

He even revealed what he was working on at poolside as he shared pictures of adorable pooches in their very own homemade doggy jumpers and revealed he’d been creating another when he was caught on camera.

He wrote: ‘I made my friends some doggy jumpers! It is the cutest little pattern to follow by @knittingland ❤️ How cute do they all look?! I was making another one at the pool yesterday lol’.

Tom’s page shows off his impressive range, from a unicorn and reindeer to baby shoes and a recreation of a £1,750 Gucci dress.
