The Dutch athlete was overjoyed after adding to his nation’s gold tally at the ongoing Tokyo Olympics 2020. In the post-win interview, Badloe explained his decision to copy the hairstyle of the protagonist ‘Aang’ from the animated series, Avatar: The Last Airbender.

“I think I’m just all-round. In all of the conditions we had, I was able to be up there. In the lighter stuff in the beginning, in the shifty offshore stuff we had, and then in the onshore stable breeze we had the last couple of days.”

“I was always close enough to the front to keep solid numbers, so I think the fact that I was all-round during the whole week is what put me in this position…This is the highlight of my career so far. I’ve won the last three world championships, but it’s always something special about an Olympics, they happen once every four years,” Badloe said via Reuters.

Kiran previously won back-to-back gold medals at the 2019 RS:X World Championships and 2020 RS:X World Championships. He also took part in the iQFoil International Games held at Campione, Lake Garda, last year.

At just 26, Badloe still has time at the peak of his career. He will be targeting further podium finishes at the Paris 2024 Olympic games. But the only question is – will he still be Aang from Avatar or some other animated character? Well, we’ll find out in three years time.
