WWE Raw results, grades: Goldberg lays out MVP after Bobby Lashley threatens his son

WWE Champion Bobby Lashley threatened Goldberg’s son on Raw as the two rivals confirmed their SummerSlam match.

The All Mighty and MVP came out at the beginning of the night, with the latter calling the former world champion an icon who can beat most men – but that doesn’t include Lashley.

He insisted Goldberg has to decide whether he wants to be remembered as a champion or a casualty – great line – before the challenger came out to have his say.

He insisted the champ looks scared and hyped himself up, insisting he’s next and then walking away.

There was more to come through as Lashley got in the face of the Hall of Famer’s son at ringside and MVP talked some more trash.

Goldberg came out to defend his boy, hitting MVP with a Spear to make a statement.

‘You mess with my son, I’ll kill you,’ he warned.

Later in the night, Bobby accepted the legend’s challenger for SummerSlam, and the match is set.

This wasn’t too bad, with Goldberg pulling his weight despite promos not typically being his strong suit.

However, WWE has to take notice of the ‘We want Wyatt’ chants heard during the opening segment – it’s clear the decision to get rid of ‘The Fiend’ Bray Wyatt is an unpopular one.

Nikki A.S.H. beats Charlotte Flair in hard-hitting match, Nia Jax gets busted open and Chicago fans chant for CM Punk

The opening match of the night – a night scattered with CM Punk chants – saw Drew McIntyre beating Veer and Shanky via disqualification in a questionable match when Jinder Mahal attacked with a chair.

The former WWE Champion fought back with his sword, standing tall and managing to get a decent reaction from the live audience.

Rhea Ripely and Nia Jax improved things with a good, hard hitting match featuring some great action – although the latter did suffer a nasty cut around her eye.

It was a botched interference from Shayna Baszler that led to the Nightmare getting the win, and she then left after a row which left Jax open to a Riptide.

Mace and T-Bar beat their former RETRIBUTION leader Mustafa Ali and his new tag team partner Mansoor in a fun but brief match, and the result at least played into the story between the fresh duo.

Tamina was carrying both Women’s Tag Team Titles this week as she defeated Doudrop after Eva Marie tried to give her pal some instructions, and Alexa Bliss was on hand to taunt her rival after the bell.

Damian Priest appeared in a somewhat awkward edition of Miz TV as the former NXT star appeared to crack up when the crowd started chanting for CM Punk.

He had a decent showing against John Morrison and got a good win before getting attacked by Sheamus, although Ricochet came down to even things up and lead into a fun tag match, which the Archer of Infamy and the One And Only won.

In the tag ranks, Omos – without AJ Styles – faced Riddle in his best match to date as he looked totally dominant without overdoing it.

We also saw some improvement in Keith Lee’s fortunes as he beat Karrion Kross in a really good match, but sadly the NXT Champion himself is getting very little response from the Raw crowd.

It’s hard to blame them so far – but at least the Limitless One picked up the win.

Reggie also shone in a 24/7 Title defence against former champ Akira Tozawa, showing off his athleticism in a really fun segment with the crowd loving the Cirque du Soleil star’s antics.

Finally, the main event pitted Nikki A.S.H. against Charlotte Flair in a No Holds Barred match.

They delivered a fantastic match, with the Queen – who compared herself to Simone Biles earlier in the night before getting attacked by the Raw Women’s Champ – dealing with Becky Lynch chants expertly.

In the end, the Almost a Superhero won with a twisting neckbreaker, making a big statement and getting some much-needed credibility.

*WWE Raw airs Mondays at 1am on BT Sport 1.
