Aaron Rodgers Has a Special Message for Sydney McLaughlin Upon Breaking World Record & Winning Gold at Tokyo Olympics

The 2020 Tokyo Olympics is now entering its home stretch. Athletes are now in the advanced stages of most events with medals coming in thick and fast. 

And as always, the United States contingent has done admirably well in representing their nation. Leading the pack in terms of overall medals, the nation is behind China on virtue of the gold medal count.

But the US athletes are now doing their best to close the gap. And one athlete who recently contributed to it is hurdler Sydney McLaughlin. The 21-year-old New Jersey native struck Gold in 400 m hurdles in an emphatic manner to secure her first-ever Olympic medal. 

Doing the nation proud, McLaughlin also broke the world record previously set by her at the Olympic trials held back in June. The hurdler broke the work record by shaving nearly half a second off her previous best to set the new record at 51.46.   

With congratulations pouring in, the young hurdler making history also got a pat on the back for efforts from one NFL superstar.

Sydney McLaughlin won gold by fending off a charge by fellow American Dalilah Muhammad who was also the defending gold medalist. Muhammad also beat McLaughlin’s previous world record with a time of 51.58, but it was only enough for her to earn silver at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

As the world watched McLaughlin storm to Gold, one NFL superstar couldn’t help but put out a word of congratulations to commend the young athlete on her success.

“@GoSydGo is incredible. Wow #WorldRecord #gold,” tweeted none other than Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

Rodgers who knows a thing or two himself about setting records has fallen short a couple of times over the past few seasons in the NFL. Losing the conference finals on back-to-back occasions has left a bad taste in the mouths of Packers players and fans alike.

But one can now hope that Aaron Rodgers can gain some inspiration from the young Olympian and make that final push for Gold or in the NFL, the Lombardi Trophy.
