Dr. Drew Pinksy has praised Britney Spears’ father for ‘saving her life’ and doing ‘an amazing job’ amid the pair’s conservatorship battle.

The 39-year-old pop star has ramped up her mission to have her dad Jamie Spears, 69, removed as her co-conservator after 13 years, hiring a new lawyer Mathew Rosengart and asking for Jamie to be replaced by accountant Jason Rubin.

However, Dr Drew has praised Britney’s family for making the ‘tough’ decision to step in for the star at the time the conservatorship was put in place in 2008.

Speaking on Candace Owen’s podcast, the 62-year-old TV doctor spoke in defense of Jamie as he stated: ‘It’s rare that a family member steps up, takes up a conservatorship. That saves somebody’s life.

‘That psychiatrist and that father did an amazing job. And the judge that issued it. Now that was then. She does well for 10 years. She’s entitled to try some time outside the conservatorship.’

He continued: ‘You have a right to destroy your life if that’s what you want to do. … The fact that they’re not going to that is a hint that things aren’t good for her psychiatrically.’

The addiction medicine specialist concluded: ‘There’s something wrong right now because if things were going well she should be able to get out of her conservatorship.’

The #FreeBritney movement has stepped up in recent months since the Circus singer spoke directly to the court in June, claiming that she was unable to remove her IUD or marry her boyfriend Sam Asghari under the conservatorship, and likened the situation to abuse.

Britney has since said that she wants her father charged with ‘conservatorship abuse’.

The star is hoping to have all restrictions lifted and to regain control over her personal and financial decisions by having the conservatorship removed without a medical assessment.

In the weeks after her statement, Britney’s former lawyer Samuel Ingham III stepped down from the case, while the Bessemer Trust withdrew as co-conservators of the star’s finances.

The mother-of-two has lived under the conservatorship since 2008, when she was hospitalized following a breakdown.

Since her bombshell court testimony, Britney has been speaking out on Instagram about the case, and criticized members of her support system for ‘hurting her’.
