All bad things must come to an end as the Lucifer season six start date has been officially announced by Netflix.

The streaming giant shared the news on Twitter with a brand new character poster that can only be described as fire.

It shows Lucifer Morningstar himself (Tom Ellis) sitting proudly on his throne surrounded by flames and the rest of his motley crew – including Chloe (Lauren German) and Amenadiel (DB Woodside) – looking like they mean business.

A message from the official Lucifer Twitter account said: ‘We’re bringing the 🔥 heat 🔥 with #lucifer s6 dropping on september 10th only on @netflix.’

It comes after the final season start date was revealed at the show’s Comic-Con@Home panel with Tom and showrunners Joe Henderson and Ildy Modrovichan.

An announcement video paid homage to the first season, as it showed Lucifer encountering the traffic cop that stopped him in the pilot episode.

There were also plenty of appetising glimpses of the Devil utilising the powers of God but, like all good teaser trailers, it didn’t give much else away.

‘We spoil a lot in our trailers and we like to do that because we like everyone talking. But this is the final season,’ Tom said during the panel.

‘We’re trying to keep our hands really close to the vest. This is the last year that we have secrets [and] can surprise people.’

Sneak peek photos have also revealed that the late Detective Daniel Espinoza (Kevin Alejandro) will be making an appearance, and Amenadiel has followed through on his desire to join the LAPD, with the late police officer proving to be a special mentor.

Star Tom has previously hinted there may be a time-travelling element as he posted a 1980s throwback on Instagram with his suave character posing up against a vehicle that looks a lot like the Delorean from Back To The Future.

Whatever the era it’s set in, Lucifer season six is going to be one hell of a last ride.

Lucifer is avalable to stream on Netflix.
