‘Not Being Aggressive’: Former NBA Champion Explains Why Steph Curry and Warriors Will Not Win Another Title

Just two years ago, the Warriors were every bit like the Chicago Bulls from the Michael Jordan era. But currently, they’re not even a top-five WC team, to say the least. A lot of this has to do with their current roster that is still plagued by injuries and stung by mediocrity. 

True, the Warriors still own an MVP candidate in Steph Curry but there’s only so much he can shoulder alone. This is not to disregard the impact of Draymond Green and the potential of Andrew Wiggins, but their roster does not match well against other WC teams today. So what’s wrong with them?

Kendrick Perkins has someone to blame for the Warriors’ roster

In a recent interview, NBA analyst Kendrick Perkins criticized the Bay Area GM for their off-season inactivity. The 36-YO exclaimed, “When I’m watching Bob Myers, and I love Bob Myers, he was my former agent before he took over a GM job with Warriors. He’s just not being aggressive right now when it comes down to off-season… I’m watching other teams around the NBA make moves.” 

That’s as true as it can get. The Lakers now have Russell Westbrook & Carmelo Anthony to help them win the WC title and there’s no way a GSW team currently matches that. Just as KP further added, “We watched the Lakers make moves yesterday… attack free agency. Rob Pelinka was in his bag like he got fries in the bottom. You watch Denver Nuggets trying to improve their roster.”

Now, both the Warriors and the Lakers are battling hard for the acquisition of Australian Patty Mills. But the 32-YO Aussie might as well go to the Nets and the GSW again stay empty-handed.

Other causes of worry for the Dubs Nation

The area where the Warriors can pat on their back is how they handled the NBA Drafts 2021. First, they got G-League’s Jonathan Kuminga and then drafted the 6’5” guard in Moses Moody.

However, those draft picks might take time to blossom and the window for the Warriors’ veterans is shrinking. True, Steph Curry might sign a $215 million extension and they still have a decent 2-way player in Wiggins. But is that enough?

KP noted all of this when he added, “I love the kid Moody from Arkansas… But we don’t really know how Klay Thompson is gonna come back. He’s coming off with two injuries, a torn ACL and Achilles… He still haven’t got game reps in. We don’t know how much Draymond got left in the tank…”

The league is getting very competitive with the Suns retaining all their weapons and Jazz keeping theirs. No wonder why KP closed his dialogue by claiming, “I don’t see Steph Curry and the Warriors winning another championship.”
