A presenter remained totally composed as he powered through an earthquake during his Olympic reporting on live television on Wednesday morning.

Mark Beretta was broadcasting live from Tokyo on Australia’s most popular breakfast show Sunrise when the studio he was in was rocked by a ‘significant’ tremor lasting 30 seconds.

It was later confirmed that the quake registered 6.0 on the Richter Scale.

‘Welcome back to the Olympic city where we are currently in an earthquake,’ Mark told the camera while keeping a cool, calm, and collected demeanour.

‘The roof above us is moving and you might notice our lights and camera are moving as well,’ he added.

Mark continued: ‘That was quite an unusual moment. I’ve not been through an earthquake before.

‘We’re about 10 stories up, we’re in a tower that at home would be made of scaffolding, here it is made of construction steel because it’s earthquake-proof, but it actually started to rock and move.’

It took Mark a few moments before he realised that he was actually experiencing an earthquake.

‘I thought I’m having some weird moment,’ he told the hosts of Sunrise. ‘I thought I’m having a twisties gymnastics moment, losing spatial awareness.’

The magnitude 6.0 earthquake struck the coast of Japan with the Japanese Meteorological Association saying there was no tsunami threat.

It’s already been a record-breaking day at today’s Games, with Sky Brown becoming Great Britain’s youngest medallist at just 13 years and 28 days.

Sky won bronze in the women’s park competition, after a dramatic podium-or-bust final run of the competition in which she landed a move called the kick-flip indy that had been eluding her all day.
