The Strictly Come Dancing line-up for 2021 is starting to take shape as the first three celebrity contestants have been announced.

On Wednesday Strictly fans heard the news that McFly guitarist Tom Fletcher, presenter AJ Odudu and comedian Robert Webb are heading to the dance floor later this year.

Speaking to The One Show hosts Alex Jones and Amoj Rajan, Tom, 36, said he felt ‘equal parts excited and terrified’ but confessed he feels ‘naked without a guitar’ – a big part of his day job.

As well he might feel terrified as he is following in the footsteps of McFly band mate and former Strictly champion Harry Judd. He and professional dancer Aliona Vilani won the 2011 series.

The drummer had a message for Tom which was read out during tonight’s episode, joking that he would be more than happy to rub his Glitterball in his pal’s face if he doesn’t triumph.

Presenter Alex shared Harry’s words, saying: ‘I’m so pleased he’s doing Strictly. It’s a win-win for me because if he wins it’s great because he’s my mate and band mate and I’ll be so pleased for him.

‘But if he doesn’t win even better because I can always remind him of who did.’

Tom laughed in response as Robert quipped: ‘Typical Harry’.

The dad-of-three shared that his friend has already given him lots of advice, saying that he ‘can’t shut Harry up about Strictly’ and he was encouraged to sign up by seeing what a great time his friend had.

Tom and Harry are in McFly alongside bassist Dougie Poynter and guitarist Danny Jones. The group have been together on and off since 2003.

The next Strictly star will be announced on BBC Radio 2 on Thursday morning.
