Just last month, drag queen Carmen Farala joined the RuPaul’s Drag Race hall of fame as she became the very first winner of Drag Race España.
Going up against Killer Queen and Sagittaria, Carmen – who had three wins under her belt already – was eventually crowned Spain’s First Drag Superstar, completing her finale look with her sparkling crown.
Having not had to lip sync for her life throughout the entire competition, Carmen gave her all to the final performance, delivering a stellar lip sync to ‘La gata bajo la lluvia’ by Rocío Dúrcal.
Following her victory, Carmen opened up to Metro.co.uk about a treasured behind-the-scenes moment that pulled at her heart strings, in addition to dishing on whether or not she’s heard from RuPaul.
When Carmen began her Drag Race journey, one of the challenges she felt most anxious about was the comedy challenge, despite going on to win the week that the queens had to perform a comedic roast.
One of her favourite moments off-screen was when – after weeks of being away from their loved ones – the competitors received surprise video messages from their nearest and dearest.

‘One of the most exciting [moments] was when in episode seven when we arrived at the workshop they surprised us with a video with a message from our family members,’ Carmen said.
‘We had been completely isolated for almost a month and to see and listen to them again was very exciting and without a doubt an injection of motivation to reach the end.’
An injection of motivation that was indeed, propelling Carmen to go all the way to the top.
So having now become a part of Drag Race herstory, has Carmen heard anything from RuPaul or fellow Drag Race judge Michelle Visage?

At the time of our interview shortly after her victory, Carmen revealed that they ‘have not contacted me to congratulate me’.
But who knows – perhaps we’ll see Carmen make a special guest appearance on Drag Race in the future?
While Carmen may not yet be in contact with the Drag Race US judges, she does have her sights set on collaborating with other Drag Race stars, particularly Envy Peru, the winner of Drag Race Holland who appeared as a guest judge in episode seven of Drag Race España.

‘She has been very kind to me and I would love to be able to work together at some point,’ Carmen said, adding that it would also be a ‘dream’ to work with Miss Fame, Violet Chachky, Valentina.
Here’s hoping an international iteration of All Stars will be on its way soon!
Drag Race España is available to watch on WOW Presents Plus.
