Jon Jones Vows To Become the UFC Heavyweight Champion in 2022

Former UFC light-heavyweight champion, Jon Jones took to Twitter recently to give his fans a teaser about his future plans. Jones hasn’t competed since his UFC 247 win against Domnick Reyes. It was one of the most lackluster performances of Jones’ career and many believed Reyes should have got the nod bu the judges.

Nevertheless, ‘Bones’ has since relinquished his 205 lbs belt. He has been bulking up in a bid to move to the heavyweight division of the UFC. A super-fight against Francis Ngannou is on every UFC fan’s wishlist. But the negotiations regarding that contest have never materialized to reality.

Nevertheless, while being on the sidelines, Jones has been very much active on social media, especially on Twitter. The former champion tweeted out once again recently. He teased his fans again about becoming a UFC champion once more in 2022.

Champion2022,” wrote ‘Bones’ in his recent post. While he didn’t mention any specific weight class or any more details, one might assume he is looking to capture the heavyweight belt. Jones believes he has done it all at the 205 lbs division of the UFC and it is time for him to pursue a new challenge to stay motivated. Taking on heavyweights fit that bill perfectly for him.

Who will Jon Jones fight upon his UFC return?

Given his accomplishments over the last decade, it is expected that ‘Bones‘ will get an immediate shot at the title once he returns to the UFC Octagon. Ngannou is currently on the sidelines but will probably fight once before the end of the year. Whether he can retain his belt, remains to be seen.

There are many exciting opponents for Jones to take on in his divisional debut. The likes of Stipe Miocic, Curtis Blaydes, and more all promise to be mouth-watering matchups. But a fight for the belt is what Jones will primarily look to have. Whether he can keep up to his promise and get the UFC belt at a second weight class, remains to be seen.
