Tom Daley has had an extremely productive time in Japan – not only has he won an Olympic gold medal, but he’s knitted the most stylish cardie of the season.
The Olympian has showcased the finished product after being spotted knitting in the stands at Tokyo 2020, and it looks incredibly cosy.
Tom posed up a storm on his crafting Instagram page Made With Love by Tom Daley in the cream cardigan, which features the Team GB embroidered onto the back above the Olympic rings, the Union Jack on the shoulder, and ‘Tokyo’ in Japanese stitched on front.
Writing about his handmade Olympics keepsake, the 27-year-old wrote: ‘ MY OLYMPIC CARDIGAN! 🇯🇵🇬🇧🔥
‘When I got to Tokyo, I wanted to make something that would remind me of the Olympics to look back on in the future. I designed a pattern for the colour work that would signify everything about these games!
‘On the back I went for a classic @teamgb logo, the shoulders have a flag and GBR on them. For the front I wanted to keep it simple and I tried my best to embroider TOKYO in Japanese! 🇯🇵🔥’
Fans were obsessed with the creation, sharing their surprise at just how good Tom is at knitting and coveting a version of the cardigan for themselves.
Tom used the attention on the post to fundraise for the Brain Tumour Charity in memory of his father Rob, who died in 2011 following a cancer battle at the age of 40.
The diver gained a whole new legion of fans this week when he was filmed knitting his cardigan and a dog jumper while poolside at the Olympics – even being dropped off a bag of yarn to keep him going.
Tom picked up knitting and crocheting over lockdown and has become pretty much a pro at the craft.

The star, who has a three-year-old son Robbie with husband Dustin Lance Black, has been sharing his knitted and crocheted creations to Instagram since last September.
Among his work is cardigans for his husband, hats for little Robbie, crocheted vests and jumpers to wear himself, and chunky throws to decorate his house.
In addition to his Team GB cardigan and his dog jumper, Tom also filled time after winning gold in the synchronised 10m platform with Matty Lee by knitting a woollen caddy for his gold medal.

Showing the little holder for his medal, with a Union Jack on one side and the Japanese flag on the other, Tom explained: ‘If you’ve been following me for a while now, you’ll know that I’m a little bit knitting obsessed, and I kept on banging my medal. So what I decided to do was make a little case for my medal.’
We’re suddenly feeling very sheepish about not finishing any of our lockdown projects…
