Dear Deidre helped me cope after girlfriend’s tragic death

DEAR DEIDRE: I CONTACTED you after my girlfriend passed away, because I was finding it impossible to move on.

You really helped me to deal with my grief. I am 36 and she was 34. We had been together, on and off, for three years.

Thank you for helping me deal with my girlfriend’s death

No issue is too small, too large or too embarrassing. Read our personal replies here.

She had health problems, and was clinically vulnerable, so I wasn’t able to see her during the lockdowns.

Just before Christmas, she went into hospital for a procedure. I never heard from her again.

When she didn’t reply to my messages, I tracked down her family.

They told me she had died. The funeral had already taken place. I was devastated and felt guilty that I hadn’t been there for her.

You suggested I commemorate her death by holding my own ceremony and planting a tree in her name. It really helped.

Your bereavement help pack gave me details of places I could go for support, which was invaluable.

I still miss her deeply, but have accepted she is no longer a part of my life and I’m looking to the future. Thank you!
