My stammer makes me shy to speak and it has got worse over lockdown

DEAR DEIDRE: I AM so embarrassed by my stammer.

I am a guy of 19 and have stuttered ever since I can remember.

It often makes me too shy to speak unless I have to, and it has really affected my social life.

The stammer got a bit better after I left school but in the pandemic it got much worse again. I don’t know why.

What can I do? It’s really affecting my confidence.
