Piers Morgan finds rare opportunity to compare himself to Lionel Messi over Barcelona walkout in savage quip

We don’t know quite how he managed it, but Piers Morgan has found a rare opportunity to compare himself to footballing great and elite athlete Lionel Messi.
The presenter has been a long-standing critic of the Argentinian footballer, widely considered to be one of the most talented players to have ever played the game.
It comes as Barcelona confirmed that Messi will leave this summer after talks over a new deal broke down – and Piers has compared the 34-year-old’s imminent exit to quitting Good Morning Britain.
‘Amazing to see the world’s second best footballer performing the world’s second most iconic walk-out of the year,’ Piers wrote on Twitter.
Somehow, we don’t think they’re quite the same thing.
The 56-year-old, who quit Good Morning Britain earlier this year after being challenged about comments he made about Meghan Markle, has criticised Messi plenty of times before and claimed that Cristiano Ronaldo is the best player in the world instead of him.
He wasn’t done there, either. Piers also slammed the footballer with a pretty savage joke.

The presenter wrote: ‘Barcelona should retire the No10 shirt immediately in honour of the greatest player to ever wear that number for the club.’
Only, it wasn’t a picture of Messi he posted but a snap of former player Ronaldinho.
Replying to a social media user – English cricketer Sam Billings – he added: ‘Actually no… I genuinely think @10Ronaldinho was better than Messi.’
We can expect plenty more observations and opinions like this if and when Piers returns to our TV screens, which he hinted at recently.

Piers shared an image of Leonardo DiCaprio raising a glass from a scene in The Great Gatsby, with the caption: ‘Cheers to all my haters! Be patient. So much more is coming.’
It might not be the return some hoped for though, after Piers recently revealed he was brutally shot down by Holly Willoughby after he suggested they work together on Good Morning Britain.
