The One Show’s Alex Jones has shared a heartwarming post with fans after being inundated with kind messages as she begins her maternity leave.
The presenter is set to welcome her third child with her husband, Charlie Thompson, in the next few weeks, and will be off our screens to spend time with her family.
Alex was left in tears as her husband joined a host of loved ones and famous friends in a video montage on last night’s instalment of the One Show.
Now, she has shared her thoughts on Twitter and said that presenting the programme ‘kept her sane’ during the last year and a half.
She wrote: ‘I’m overwhelmed by all your kind messages after tonight’s show!!!! The thing is…working on the one show during the pandemic has kept me sane and I am truly grateful for your warm welcome every night.
‘I’m off to have our little girl now and swap the green sofa for bath time.’
Alex will be off our screens for a while as she prepares to welcome a third child into her family. The BBC series will also be going on a temporary summer break, with Alex not expected to be back on the sofa until autumn.

Introducing the clip last night, her co-star Ronan Keating said: ‘You deserve one big thank you, Al, you’ve been amazing this last year. You’ve been there for everybody across this country.
‘Every evening, 7pm, you’ve made us laugh, you’ve made us cry but you’ve been there, always. Thank you from everybody on team One Show.’

Alex is already mum to sons Edward and Kit. Alex shared their happy news in March with a black-and-white photo of her family clutching a board, which read: ‘Coming Soon… Baby Number 3.’
‘The best surprise ever,’ she captioned the heartwarming upload.
The One Show will be back on BBC One later in the year.
