Stefanos Tsitsipas and Patrick Mouratoglou Indulge in Banter As the Greek Overtakes Rafael Nadal in Rankings

Greek tennis star Stefanos Tsitsipas has been one of the impressive youngsters on Tour. Although he has been around for a few seasons, he is still a 22-year-old player. With time passing by, he will only get better and stronger. 

Recently, there was a development in Stefanos Tsitsipas’ ranking. The young man from Greece will become the new World No. 3, overtaking the Spanish star Rafael Nadal. It is the first time he will hold this position and it is an indication of how consistent he has been performing this season.

Stefanos Tsitsipas climbs one step ahead

As Stefanos will climb a spot in the rankings on Monday, he and his coach Patrick Mouratoglou indulged in light banter. In a post on Instagram, both individuals are holding a chart. On Tsitsipas’ chart, “What’ll my ranking be on Monday Patrick?” On the other side, Patrick is holding a chart that said, “World No. 3.”

Reflecting on Tsitsipas’ season so far, he began competing in Melbourne and came as far as the semifinal. During the event, he beat Rafael Nadal after being down two sets, to win the next three. It was one of the best matches of the season. 

During the clay season, he performed exceedingly well, winning his first ATP Masters 1000 title in Monte Carlo. In the next event in Barcelona, he was the finalist and went down to Rafa in another epic battle.

At the French Open, he came to his first-ever Grand Slam final. Sadly, he lost to Novak Djokovic after winning the first two sets. Later, at the Wimbledon Championships, he crashed out in the opening round. 

Over the years, he has proven to be a good player on the hard courts. Therefore, it’ll be interesting to see how he performs in the upcoming events and the US Open in particular.
