ALAS! Lorenzo Musetti Disqualified From National Bank Open in Toronto As He Breaches the Protocols

Italian tennis player Lorenzo Musetti has made quite an impact this season. The youngster has played exceptionally well during the clay season. After seeing him this season, one can say that he is an exciting prospect who can make it big in the coming years. 

Unfortunately, Lorenzo Musetti has gotten COVID-19 and due to that, he cannot compete in the upcoming event in Montreal. If the recovery process takes longer, he could miss the following event in Cincinnati too. This news comes as a severe blow to the Italian as the season’s final Grand Slam event is coming up later this month.

The statement released was, “Tennis Canada and ATP can confirm that Lorenzo Musetti has been withdrawn from the National Bank Open presented by Rogers qualifying draw due to having left the COVID-19 controlled environment. He will be replaced by alternate Max Purcell.”

Lorenzo Musetti is the latest casualty 

Musetti had taken the tests and, which left the organizers with no option but to remove the Italian and replace him with Max Purcell. This latest update will have a negative impact on his hardcourt season currently

They further added, “As per the letter of approval issued by the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) to the National Bank Open to run the event, any individual leaving the controlled environment is in breach of COVID-19 protocol & will be unable to re-enter & compete at the event.”

Speaking of the Italian, he had a great clay season. Sadly, at the French Open, he lost to Novak Djokovic in the fourth round. During that match, he was up by two sets and then ended up losing the next three sets. 

However, one hopes he recovers soon and can come back competing at the highest levels. Once he returns, all eyes will be on the teenage sensation.
