Dillian Whyte Backs Rival Tyson Fury to Defeat Deontay Wilder Despite the Animosity
Tyson Fury is all set to face Deontay Wilder in October to settle their rivalry once and for all. Initially, the two were supposed to meet in the ring on July 23. However, news about members in his camp testing positive for COVID-19 recently broke out. Soon after this announcement, Tyson Fury’s team shared that even he had tested positive. This led to talks of the fight being called off, but it instead got pushed to October 9.

Fury received a lot of backlash over his COVID-19 announcement. Other fighters in the division and many fans even accused ‘The Gypsy King’ of faking his results in order to secure extra time for training. Naturally, his long-time rival Deontay Wilder was among one of the first to call him out for making excuses.
Another long-time rival, Dillian ‘The Body Snatcher’ Whyte, accused Tyson Fury of the same. He even said that “w***er” Tyson Fury has “f***ed” the heavyweight division. However, he set the animosity and their bad blood aside in a recent interview, when he shared that Tyson Fury will defeat Wilder once again.
“I think Tyson Fury’s going to win again. He beat him twice so, what’s going to change?” said Whyte.
Is Tyson Fury next for Dillian Whyte?
In 2020, Alexander Povetkin knocked out Dillian Whyte. A year later, ‘The Body Snatcher’ stepped into the ring with Povetkin once again and got back into the win column. Ever since then, the interim WBC heavyweight champion has been wanting to secure a fight with the WBC world champion, Tyson Fury.
As an injunction led to the collapse of the mega British heavyweight showdown between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury, Deontay Wilder was moved to the number one contender for ‘The Gypsy King’. This new update pushed Dillian Whyte out of the top contender spot, so Tyson Fury can choose to pick a voluntary fight before fighting Whyte.
If Fury wins against Wilder on October 9, he could fight a top-15 contender and then again pick up the Joshua fight, right where it got left off. If Fury successfully defends his title against ‘The Bronze Bomber’, he would have another year to face a mandatory challenger again.
Tyson Fury clearly has a lot of options to choose from and it seems like it could be a while before Dillian Whyte gets his shot at the WBC title. For now, American boxer Charles Martin has shown interest in fighting Whyte. He could even consider fighting him for his official USA debut.
