Alfa Romeo F1 Boss Reveals Grim Reality of Ferrari’s Engine Compared to Mercedes & Honda

Alfa Romeo haven’t been performing to the levels they wanted this season. The Swiss-based team currently sit in ninth place in the constructor’s standings with just three points to their name.

Team Principal, Frédéric Vasseur has stated that due to Mercedes and Honda power units dominating the grid, they can no longer have an impact during a Grand Prix weekend.

Having a Ferrari engine at the back of his cars, Vasseur feels they are on the same level as Renault. However, he doesn’t seem to lose hope and is optimistic that things will look better in the 2022 season.

The team is having an underwhelming season, to say the least. While Mercedes and Honda power units are dominating the grid and helped their respective teams be title contenders for the 2021 season.

Hence, Vasseur feels it take some time to reach their levels, but believes they can be on par with their rivals. As quoted from Formula Passion, he said, “Honda and Mercedes are miles ahead of us. the Ferrari power unit at the moment is at the level of the Renault one, but we are very happy with the performance step that took place in 2021.”

Can they redeem themselves in the second half of the season?

In the recent Hungarian Grand Prix, the Swiss-based team only managed to secure one point, courtesy of Kimi Raikkonen. However, they need to step up their game to salvage their season.

With a tally of just three points, which sees them in ninth place in the team standings. Vasseur hopes that they can bag more points from the upcoming Belgium Grand Prix at Spa.

Having an experienced lineup in the form of Raikkonen and Antonio Giovinazzi. The duo hope to achieve a better result in the next round, to help their team to get ahead in the championship.
