Bryson DeChambeau Gets Bullied by Fans at WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational; Harris English Condemns

Golf is a very competitive sport and this, in turn, elicits some serious rivalries between the players. Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka are currently providing fans with some fiery content, but things have been getting out of hand over the past few weeks. So much so that it is adversely affecting DeChambeau’s performance on the golf course. 

Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka have been jawing at each other for a few years now. But all this did not escalate until the 2021 PGA Championship where Koepka’s infamous eye-roll went viral on the internet. 

While DeChambeau and Koepka have been going at it for the sake of their ego, or probably the PIP fund, there is also a third party involved – “the fans.” While Koepka has not been facing the brunt of the heat from DeChambeau’s fans, the latter has been subjected to bullying on the golf course.

Harris English comes to the aid of Bryson DeChambeau 

Harris English was paired with Bryson DeChambeau for the final round of the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational. English was leading the tournament while DeChambeau was two strokes behind him before the start of the final round. 

But due to intense bullying by the fans, Bryson DeChambeau could not keep his cool at TPC Southwind and shot a final round 74. A lot of factors contributed to his poor round, and English witnessed fans harassing him from the sidelines. 

“It’s not real fair for them to call him ‘Brooksy’ a lot,” English said. “It kind of sucks, and obviously he hears it and it affects him a little bit. He doesn’t like it, and I think that causes them to do it more. It just sucks that that’s out here right now, that they’re trying to irk people like that. It’s just unfortunate.”

This is a common occurrence in all sports. Fans have the freedom to express themselves, but here, things have taken a turn for the worse. Golf is all about having peace of your mind while playing, but DeChambeau could have none of it on Sunday. 

Of course, it is DeChambeau’s prerogative to block the outside noise and focus on his game. But sometimes the mental barrier breaks when there is too much noise. In this case, Koepka’s fans are massively taunting Bryson, causing his game to self-destruct.
