Where is the Dixie fire located?

The fire currently blazing through northern California, known as the Dixie fire, has been making its way through various counties in the state.

Counties such as Plumas, Butte, Lassen, and Tehama are some under emergency as officials attempt to contain the Dixie flames.

Around 39 percent of residents in Plumas County are under evacuation orders as the fire continues blazing in California.

Greenville, a city in Plumas County, has suffered major losses due to the flames.

Nearly every business in the city’s commercial center appeared to have collapsed or been gutted with flames still flickering in the debris, according to a video by storm chaser Brandon Clement.

According to Calfire, the blaze is only 21 percent contained and over 8,500 firefighters have been working tirelessly to calm the flames.

Authorities are currently trying to keep the fire from spreading to Crescent Mills, a small town a few miles south of Greenville.

“We’re seeing fire activity that even veteran firefighters haven’t seen in their career,” Edwin Zuniga, a spokesman for the state firefighting agency, Cal Fire, told The Washington Post.

“So we’re just in really uncharted territory.”

The fire is now covering an area larger than the size of New York City.

How many people have died in the Dixie fires?

So far, no deaths have been reported due to the Dixie fire.

However, four people have been missing and are unaccounted for.

“As of 2:30 pm today, the Plumas County Sheriff’s Office is reporting the safe recovery of 27, previously reported unaccounted for individuals,” the office reported on Sunday.

“Search efforts continue for four unaccounted residents. The public and media’s assistance is requested in locating these individuals.”

They named the unaccounted individuals Lillian Basham, Joseph Basha, Blanca Auban, and Michael Auban, all of Greenville.

The update also asked for the missing people to call the Sheriff’s Office to report their safety.

What caused the Dixie fires?

The cause of the Dixie fires is still under investigation.

It is one of 11 wildfires burning across California.

Throughout the country on August 8, 2021, there were 107 large wildfires burning in 15 states, resulting in over 2.2million acres burned, according to an update by the National Interagency Fire Center.

Aside from the Dixie fires in California, there are 16 fires raging in Oregon.

Montana and Idaho are also blazing with 25 and 20 fires respectively, according to NIFC.

California Governor Gavin Newsom visited Greenville in light of the damage and addressed the press, saying: “We have a deep responsibility to rebuild this community.

“But also address the intensity of what is occurring globally, but manifesting in smash-mouth ways here in California – and that’s climate change.”
