Halo Infinite story campaign may already have been leaked according to latest info

Halo Infinite – is the truth already out there? (pic: Microsoft)

The technical preview for Halo Infinite may have revealed more than it intended, as dataminers piece together the game’s entire story.

We hope it’s obvious but just in case it’s not: this article contains lots of spoilers about Halo Infinite. Or perhaps not if the details have been misunderstood or fabricated.

The information first appeared on Reddit shortly after the multiplayer technical preview and claims to have been pieced together from references to the story campaign in the technical test – which other fans have subsequently been trying to make sense of.

We’ll leave it up to you if you want to read the whole thing, but the basics are summarised below, so last warning about those spoilers…

*** WARNING: POSSIBLE SPOILERS FOR HALO INFINITE STORY CAMPAIGN ***

In the official footage released so far you can already see that Master Chief has teamed up with a new AI referred to only as ‘The Weapon’. This is the official synopsis of the story from Microsoft:

‘Cortana’s fate is one of the Infinite campaign’s big mysteries, and early in the story, you will meet a new UNSC AI, ‘the Weapon’, that was created to help stop Cortana. Together with the Pilot, the Master Chief, and the Weapon begin an epic adventure to explore Zeta Halo, defeat the Banished forces who control the ring, and unravel even more mysteries along the way.’

Supposedly The Weapon is a copy of Cortana but doesn’t realise it and the early part of the story revolves around travelling across the Halo rescuing humans from The Banished, with side missions to defeat mini-boss like Banished who have unique weapons you can collect.

At one point the pilot of the ship you’re flying around in, who is also featured in the trailer, gets kidnapped and Master Chief and The Weapon have to travel deeper into the Halo and deal with unspecified Forerunner artefacts.

This leads to you reaching a location called the Silent Auditorium and meeting a new character called the Harbinger who is part of a race called the Endless (which may be another name for the Precursors).

The Endless were apparently trapped in the Halo by the Forerunners and the Harbinger has teamed up with the Banished to help release them, after already having defeated Cortana to take over the Silent Auditorium (which may be related to the Mantle).

After this, things start getting a lot vaguer, but it seems the second half of the game, after the defeat of the Banished leader Escharum, you end up chasing the Harbinger around the Halo. While doing so you also run into a monitor, which you have to stop from activating the Halo.

Around this point The Weapon finds out she’s a copy of Cortana, which makes her think she should destroy herself – which the Chief talks her out of.

The Harbinger is the final boss battle of the game and reveals that the Silent Auditorium is where the Forerunners put the Endless on trial before deciding to trap them in the Halo forever.

Although you defeat the Harbringer, the Endless are still apparently released and Master Chief and The Weapon escape through a portal to parts unknown.

It all sounds very authentic but at this point there’s no way of knowing whether it’s made up or not. The leaks contain lots and lots of text strings supposedly found in the technical test, but not only do you have to rely on the dataminers’ word for that there’s no guarantee that they’ve been interpreted correctly.

Microsoft is planning to have a livestream at Gamescom on August 24, when there’ll undoubtedly be more information revealed. If any of that matches up with the above, then it will add a lot of credence to the leak as a whole.
