“I Believed I Could Fly to… “ – George Russell Opens Up on the Harsh Realities of F1

Every athlete has the utmost faith in themselves, and George Russell is no different. However, as he grew older, the Brit became more practical in his approach. He thought he could breeze past the completion in F1, but with time he realized how difficult it was.

However, he does give credit to his younger self, if not for those moments, he couldn’t have channeled the energy to get the most out of him.

George Russell feels he has become more understanding with age

Speaking to Claire Cottingham in an exclusive interview with the Express. He said, “You know, as as a driver, you always believe in yourself. And when I was much younger, I thought I was going to be easy.”

“I believed I could fly to the moon if I wanted to and conquer anything, as most of the kids believe in. And I think it’s only as I grew a bit older I recognised how difficult that is.”

“I think by recognising that so early, it really helped me to channel my energy into really getting more out myself and I think it’s just it’s great that people recognise the hard work and what we’re [Williams] have been achieving on track because I don’t think that often happens.” Russell concluded.

The Brit played a vital role in Williams progress this season

The 23-year-old has brought his A-game to the 2021 season and helped the Grove-based outfit to believe in themselves and find their form. Russell has outshined himself in the quail session during a Grand Prix weekend, getting into Q2 and making a surprise appearance in Q3 as well.

However, the most notable moment in his Williams’ career so far was at Hungarian Grand Prix. With the help of Canadian teammate, Nicholas Latifi, Russell has helped the team bag double points from that weekend.

As it stands, Williams finds themselves in eighth place in the championship with ten points. The Grove-based outfit will be hoping to carry their form at the upcoming Belgium GP at the end of August.
