The Loose Women hosts found themselves trapped inside the show’s studios today as anti-vax protesters clashed with Met Police officers outside.

Charlene White, Nadia Sawalha, Jane Moore and Penny Lancaster were busy presenting Monday’s episode of the ITV talk show as the demonstrations gathered momentum outside the BBC Studios in White City, where Loose Women is filmed.

The presenters weren’t able to leave the building when the episode went off-air at 1:30pm as groups of protesters tried to get inside the studios.

Sharing an update with her Twitter followers, Charlene tweeted: ‘Huge thanks to Andy and the security team over at Television Centre. The protesters attempted to gain access to the building while we were live on air with @loosewomen – and we’ve only just left, because of safety. Andy and his team were just incredible, thank-you.

‘And also huge thanks to the swift response of London’s @metpoliceuk… not an easy situation for them to deal with either.’

The ITV News presenter then joked: ‘Not sure what protestors were hoping to achieve, but all they would’ve found was me, Jane, Nadia and Penny on @loosewomen talking about the menopause.

‘Anyway… protestors or not, I’ve still gotta finish my working day. So, off to @itvnews for the 18.30 show. Despite having zero sympathy for my earlier predicament, I know my Programme Editor @edsaunt was slightly panicked I wouldn’t make it in time. Don’t worry Ed – I’m coming!’

Sharing their own terrifying experience after getting caught up at the protests, one follower replied: ‘V glad you and the team are safe, I was dining at Bluebird White City when the mob appeared, what a brave bunch they are walking in their combat trousers looking for trouble. And to target Television Centre.’

Another follower said: ‘We had guys stuck in TC1, and other guys trying to get to TC1 to derig! From what I have heard, the Police and building security handled everything extremely well!’

Expressing their anger at the protests, one other weighed in: ‘How horrible! Very annoying for you all too literally being prisoners because of some idiots. I was watching today as always and it all seemed smooth. I’m glad you’re all ok and thanks to your “rescuers”.’

The demonstrators are believed to have been angry at coronavirus restrictions and about vaccine policy.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said earlier: ‘We’re aware of a group of demonstrators who, having set off from Shepherds Bush Green at around 1pm, are now gathered outside a commercial premises in Wood Lane, White City.
