Sarah Ferguson has revealed she and Princess Diana would often discuss the impact being judged for their weight had on them.
Fergie, 61, appeared on Loose Women on Monday to discuss her new novel, Her Heart For A Compass, in which she addresses one of the main characters having an eating disorder.
She says she drew from personal experience of having her weight scrutinised in the public eye for the book, which was something she and Diana both experienced.
Fergie told the panel: ‘The thing is, is that I am coming to terms with the fact that I am never going to look like you Penny [Lancaster] and be a supermodel and that I am me with a beautiful bit of red hair.
‘I am coming to terms with it now. It’s [been] long enough, it’s been 35 years in public life, but I think it is very hard and I do have to say that I do address the eating disorder issue with Lady Margaret in the book because it’s one of my big subjects, of course.’
Princess Diana famously opened up about her struggles with bulimia during her BBC interview with Martin Bashir in 1995, and Fergie had also struggled after headlines criticised her weight.

She continued: ‘Diana and I used to talk about it a lot, about what it is to be on the front pages and people judging what size you are.
‘I speak openly to you today from here, saying it’s ok, anyone watching, just be who you are and keep fighting on and don’t give up.’

Fergie previously revealed that she had developed issues with eating since she was a child, after turning to food for comfort when her mother left.
Loose Women airs weekdays from 12.30pm on ITV.
