‘Couldn’t Have Came at a Better Time’: Carmelo Anthony Talks About Teaming Up With LeBron James at Lakers

The Los Angeles Lakers made some serious signings going into the new season. From superstars to NBA veterans, they did not leave a single stone unturned. Notably, they signed Carmelo Anthony from the Portland Trailblazers. Now, we will finally get to see LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony play together.

Before this, it was quite a rough journey for Carmelo Anthony, who went through major changes in his NBA career. Going from one of the brightest scorers to coming off the bench, he had to adapt. However, he did not give up on basketball and got the opportunity to play for Portland 2 years ago.

Now, he has joined forces with LeBron James, one of his best friends. He spoke about his move to the Lakers and playing with LeBron.

Melo and LeBron James laughed about playing together

In a conversation, Carmelo revealed how he and LeBron would laugh about playing together one day. However, here we are with Melo and James on the Lakers. Also, Anthony thinks there could not have been a better time to team up. Carmelo said:

“The time is now for us to be on the same team. It couldn’t have came at a better time.”

Carmelo Anthony said for years he and LeBron have “laughed and joked” about the possibility of playing together, but he thinks on the Lakers “the time is now for us to be on the same team. It couldn’t have came at a better time.”

Carmelo Anthony, accepting the role of a bench player, was impressive in his two seasons at Portland. He played just like the skilled scorer he is known to be, averaging 13.4 points per game in 25 minutes of game time.

Over the last two seasons, he has proved that he still possesses the skill to score and be an offensive threat. With a playmaker like LeBron James by his side, this will only be enhanced.

Rivals to Teammates: Melo and the King

While they are best friends now, it did not always start off that way. Melo and LeBron have been rivals since their high school days. Moreover, they were even drafted in the same year. Both of them competed for the Rookie of the Year, but LeBron James took it home.

However, that did not faze Melo, as he remained on top of his game. He was scoring over anyone and everyone while playing for the Nuggets and Knicks. But, in time, he transitioned into a role player from a centerpiece. This is one reason he will work great with LeBron right now.

James’ efficiency still lives on as he gives the Lakers 25/8/8 per night. If they teamed up in their prime, it would be difficult for them to co-exist as they both would need the ball to help the team win. However, with Melo’s role changing and LeBron becoming more of a facilitator, they are in a perfect situation.
