‘Elias is dead’: WWE star kills off character and burns his guitar on Raw

Where does he go from here? (Photo: WWE)

Elias has killed off his WWE persona and is seemingly set to try something new.

The multi-talented superstar appeared on Raw this week in a pre-taped video as he was seen throwing his signature guitar into a fire pit.

In a voiceover, he said: ‘WWE stood for Walk With Elias. But Elias is dead.’

It’s a big change for the former Drifter, who has had a musical character since his NXT debut in 2015.

For a long time, he was one of the most popular acts with fans in arenas across the country, instantly getting a reaction with his performances before the inevitable interruption.

WWE seemed to go all in with the character too, releasing two EP – Walk With Elias and Universal Truth – and letting him play live on Bourbon Street.

He even worked with John Cena and The Undertaker back on consecutive nights at WrestleMania 35 and Raw the next evening.

However, for a while now – particularly without live crowds – things have changed, and he was most recently seen in a midcard feud with Jaxson Ryker.

Now, it’ll be interesting to see whether Elias can connect with the fanbase with something drastically different to what brought him to the dance on screen.

He’s certainly got the support of some people in the business who really known their stuff, as Hall of Famer Jeff Jarrett previously gushed over his charisma and ‘unique set of skills’.

He exclusively told Metro.co.uk: ‘He’s got a huge upside… He’s got something that you can’t teach, that you can’t coach, that you can’t manufacture.

‘He’s got a unique set of skills. He’s got an aura about him, a charisma about him that’s very unique.

‘The fact that he can play, and sing, and wrestle, and write music, and tie it all together – it makes him a very entertaining character.’

*WWE Raw airs Monday nights at 1am on BT Sport 1.
