As reported by GpFans, Alonso explained it did not deject him to lose the title, but he was looking towards his then-teammate Felipe Massa. Fernando also stated he is aware that the stare has become very popular among fans.

“It was 2012. We lost the championship, and I wanted to just hug Felipe, but Felipe was crying a lot. I was waiting for him but I was shocked, not because I lost the championship in those laps, shocked because Felipe was crying so much.

“We were both on the podium. I was second and Felipe was third, so it was supposed to be happy, but Felipe was crying like a baby, so I was curious to see what was going on. That was my reaction there.” said Alonso.

The Spaniard considers 2012 as his best season in F1

Alonso has mentioned that he considers the 2012 season as his best in the sport. He also stated that he felt most complete as a driver in that year.

“I think my best season was 2012 in terms of driving style, results, and extracting the maximum from that Ferrari. I think 2012 I always put as my 100 (percent). I’m hopefully close to that 100 and I have learned so many things in the last two years outside Formula 1 that I’m curious to see how I can take those learnings into racing here again,” explained Alonso.
