When Tyron Woodley had announced his boxing debut against Jake Paul, several fight fans were left shocked. The matchup came out of nowhere and immediately turned into one of the most heated rivalries in recent times. Woodley doesn’t have any pro-boxing experience, but that didn’t stop him from agreeing to meet ‘The Problem Child’ in a pugilistic collision.
Relying on his status as a top-tier combatant, Tyron ‘The Chosen One’ Woodley also had a verbal banter with Jake Paul. But the rivalry didn’t just come out of nowhere.
The electrifying contest will happen on August 29 at the Rocket Mortgage Field House in Cleveland. The fight will be available live on Showtime PPV. While we are days away from seeing who stands taller on the fight night, here’s a look back at how the rivalry between Jake Paul and Tyron Woodley began.
Jake Paul vs Tyron Woodley- The epic collision
Following his departure from the UFC, Tyron Woodley had declared nothing official about his fighting future. However, on April 17, Paul and Woodley got into a heated tussle that planted the seeds of their upcoming fight. Paul was lacing his gloves for a clash against MMA veteran Ben Askren in a Triller PPV.
At the event, he came across Tyron Woodley and the UFC elite had a hard time with the YouTuber-fighter. Boxer J’Leon Love was also present in the arena. Although none of the sides went extreme, they eyed each other with some vile intentions. After Paul successfully beat Askren to go 3-0, Tyron Woodley popped up as his fourth in-ring opponent.
The fight garnered attention from Showtime and they sealed the television rights to the clash. After that, there have been several feuds, social media cusses, and verbal slurs which intensified the rivalry.
