Love Island 2021: Will there be a Twitter challenge or lie detector?

The Love Island boys may well have rebuilt the bridges with their partners following their Casa Amor antics but could that come crashing down if the lie detector challenge rears its head once again?

Every year the lie detector and tweet challenges throw up some carnage in the villa and test even the strongest of couples.

Abigail Rawlings and Dale Mehmet were both dumped from the villa in the latest episode while Jake Cornish and Kaz Kamwi were left pondering why they’d been voted least favourite by the public vote.

We’ve already seen some explosive scenes between Faye Winter and Teddy Soares but could we be about to see a lot more in the final few weeks with some upcoming challenges?

Will there be a Twitter challenge on Love Island this year?

The short answer? It’s not clear, but it’s looking increasingly unlikely.

The Twitter challenge has caused plenty of drama in the past with contestants having to guess missing words of tweets from the public relating to themselves… and they aren’t usually nice comments.

In previous years, the Love Island producers usually bring out the challenge before Casa Amor takes place.

That hasn’t happened this year and with just under two weeks to go until the final, time is running out for the challenge to take place.

Many fans on Twitter have been calling for the episode to come but there are some, including former Love Island contestants, who believe the challenge is damaging to people’s mental health.

Former Love Islander Amy Hart tweeted last month: ‘Twitter challenge is usually before Casa Amor, do we think it’s been scrapped this year coz of mental health awareness? #loveIsland’.

Another previous member of the villa, Amber Gill, replied: ‘I don’t think the tweet challenge was the worst bit for any of us! Do you?’

There is still a chance the challenge will take place though as it aired after Casa Amor in the latest winter edition of the show.

Will there be a lie detector challenge on Love Island this year?

The lie detector would often make for uncomfortable viewing as Islanders were faced with difficult questions and then have to try and explain to their partners why they failed a particular question.

But despite its popularity, the lie detector was scrapped after the 2018 series so it is unlikely to make a return this year.

Reports suggest Love Island bosses got rid of the lie detector episode after the death of a guest on The Jeremy Kyle Show which led to the show being permanently cancelled.

Steven Dymond, 62, failed a lie detector test on the show after his partner accused him of cheating and a few days later he tragically died by suicide.
