“Made Too Many Mistakes” – Chase Elliott Rues Lost Chance to Win at Watkins Glen

At the Watkins Glen International circuit, Chase Elliott lost his chance to grab a hat-trick of wins. Instead, Kyle Larson emerged victorious and took the championship lead in the process. Admittedly, Elliott had his work cut out for him when he got sent to the back of the grid. As it turned out, his car had failed pre-race inspection, and he had to start from the back.

Nevertheless, he put his head down and charged up the field. Without a doubt, it was an impressive performance, and he did a respectable job of finishing 2nd from dead last. Of course, he was a little disappointed to not get that extra place and displace teammate Larson.

Elliott said, “Yeah, I made too many mistakes to get the win, unfortunately, and made it too late in the race. Super proud of our team. Been kind of an uphill battle all day, but everybody was just super prepared coming into the day, and our NAPA team just did a really good job of fighting it. If I hadn’t have let them down there, I think we would have had a shot at it.”

Chase Elliott was happy for Kyle Larson

In spite of his misery, he was still glad for Larson and the rest of his crew. At the end of the day, this was a win for Hendrick Motorsports, even if he himself did not reach Victory Lane. Chase Elliott acknowledged that the team has worked extremely hard, and they all deserved to win.

Now, the defending champion has assured that he will try not to make more mistakes. Although he knows that he is safely in the playoffs, he cannot afford to slack off. This is because he knows that the real battle is only just beginning. Once the playoffs commence, no prisoners will be taken between any of the 16 qualified drivers.
