Strictly Come Dancing is rolling out more names for the class of 2021, with Coronation Street star Katie McGlynn joining the line-up.

The soap actress was revealed on Tuesday morning’s episode of BBC Breakfast.

An excited Katie said: ‘It’s been so hard keeping it a secret, but I can finally say that I’m getting ready to shake my shimmy and become part of the Strictly family!

‘I’m really not a dancer, but I’m so excited to learn a new skill on this crazy journey and cannot wait to slip into some sequins along the way.

‘Although I do get to have so much fun as an actress, a lot of my roles have involved quite serious and challenging storylines, so I’m fully ready to let my hair down and do something different, even if it is completely outside of my comfort zone.’

She added: ‘I can’t promise that I’ll be the best, but I’m going to give it 110% on the dance floor! As long as I don’t fall over I’ll be happy.’

Who is Katie McGlynn?

Katie, 28, is best known for playing machinist Sinead Tinker on Coronation Street from 2013 to 2019 when her character died from cervical cancer in heartbreaking scenes.

She told OK! at the time she quit Corrie that she was ‘really pleased’ to be moving on.

Her decision came after she spoke to bosses about not having a ‘decent story’ before she was told about Sinead’s health battle storyline.

‘I said we should finish with the saddest ending because life’s not a fairy tale,’ Katie explained.

‘I’ve been affected by people in my family who had cancer and I wanted to showcase that.’

In May this year she was cast as Becky in Channel 4 soap Hollyoaks, a new mum with a secret who befriends Diane Hutchinson on the soap.

As for her personal life, the star is believed to be currently single having split from boyfriend Benji Roberts in 2019.

The Waterloo Road star joins a stellar cast that includes BBC Breakfast presenter Dan Walker, Dragon’s Den businesswoman Sara Davies, McFly singer Tom Fletcher, TV presenter AJ Odudu, comedian Robert Webb, CBBC presenter Rhys Stephenson, and Great British Bake Off star and chef John Whaite.

John, who won Bake Off in 2012, is set to make history on the show as half of its first ever all male pairing.
