Dominic Thiem Appoints Alexander Zverev’s Ex-Conditioning Coach Ahead of US Open 2021 Defence

Austrian tennis player Dominic Thiem has been away from the Tour for over a month. He suffered a wrist injury towards the build-up of the Wimbledon Championships this year. Due to that, he even skipped the Olympics in Tokyo.

Now that the focus has shifted towards the US Open Series, Dominic Thiem has begun training, preparing himself for the hardcourt season. Not only that, he will be defending his US Open title at Flushing Meadows this season. In another development, the Austrian player has appointed physical conditioning coach, Jez Green.

Interestingly, he was in the Alexander Zverev camp prior to his recent move. Green has been involved with some of the biggest names in our sport. For a long period, he was in association with former World No. 1 Andy Murray. He has experience of over 10 years on the ATP Tour.

Moving on to Thiem, he has barely played any tennis this season. He was first seen at the Australian Open but lost in the fourth round to Grigor Dimitrov. After that, he lost in the opening round of the French Open. He then missed the Wimbledon Championships followed by the Tokyo Olympics.

Coming on to Zverev, he lost in the quarterfinal to Novak Djokovic during the first Grand Slam event of the season. After that, he lost in the semifinal at the French Open. He failed to impress during the Wimbledon Championships but won the gold medal at the Olympic Games in Tokyo.

It will be interesting to see how Zverev and Thiem perform during the hardcourt season. We wish both players the very best for the upcoming matches.
