Love Island star Hugo Hammond has shut down the claim that it took him ‘five times’ to successfully kiss Amy Day in Casa Amor, saying that ‘wasn’t the case’ despite speculation.
Last week, Hugo was one of four islanders chosen by his fellow contestants to be dumped from the ITV show alongside Amy, with whom he was coupled up.
Despite the pair forming a connection in Casa Amor, they have since confirmed that there’s no chance of a real-life romance brewing between them, with Amy branding Hugo ‘fake’.
After describing his quest for love on Love Island as ‘tragic’ upon his exit – a comment he made awkwardly while standing right next to a startled Amy – on Wednesday Hugo made a virtual appearance on Lorraine, where he spoke to Christine Lampard about his time in the villa.
Christine noted to Hugo that when fellow former islander Aaron Francis was interviewed on Lorraine, he had criticised Hugo for saying ‘job done’ after his first kiss outside of a challenge with Amy in Casa Amor.
After saying that he’s looking forward to catching up with Aaron later this week in London once his isolation period is over, Hugo addressed the remark, explaining that it ‘just slipped out’ as ‘it was meant to be something you just think’.

‘I’ve seen some of the papers saying “it took him five times to do it”, but that wasn’t the case,’ the PE teacher added.
‘It was genuinely just me being a little bit silly and me being… I was relieved, I was so nervous before that kiss. I was just relieved that I’d finally kind of found a bit of a connection with someone. And yeah, I was just happy.’
Hugo recently boasted that since leaving Love Island, his DMs have been teeming with messages.
On Sunday night’s Aftersun, Hugo and Amy’s reunion turned sour when Hugo accused her of using him to get into the villa from Casa Amor.

‘I just felt like a green card to the villa,’ Hugo remarked, leaving Amy and viewers shocked.
‘Amy’s clearly got a strong opinion but I think people are forgetting that Amy chose to stay in Tyler’s bed on night one, so she wasn’t into me from the start and I just felt like a green card to the villa.’
Lorraine airs weekdays at 9am on ITV.
