‘Sacrifice’: Former NBA Champion Gives Warriors Rookie Moses Moody the Advice Worth a Lifetime

The Warriors are looking for redemption in the upcoming season where they’ll finally have the Splash Brothers back. Everyone saw how Steph Curry expressed after their play-in loss to the Grizzlies that not qualifying for the postseason was strange territory for him. He surely would not want to get comfortable with that feeling.

So now, this makes the job of youngsters in the Warriors organization even more difficult. In the 2021 drafts, GSW placed their faith in Moses Moody and Jonathan Kuminga as their picks. So how shall the rookies handle the pressure of joining a championship-contending team?

Former NBA Champion has his two cents

In a recent interview, GSW rookie Moses Moody sat down with Rachel Nichols and Kendrick Perkins to discuss his feelings about playing under such a historic banner. Although the rookie looked overwhelmed, he also showcased calmness and confidence in his words. The 19-YO used this opportunity to ask KP how he dealt with the pressure as a youngster in the 2008 champion team.

The 36-YO retired player expressed, “It’s special. As a young guy, you wanna come in and you have individual expectations for yourself, as you should. You should want to make in All-Star Game, an All-NBA Team, the All-Rookie Team. But when you come to the situation, that you have a chance to win a championship, then the word sacrifice means the most.”

That’s true because the #14 pick might or might not get enough minutes to prove his worth in a star-studded team. Yet, he must make the most out of whatever he gets without much complaint.

How will Moses Moody help the Warriors organization?

The former Arkansas Razorbacks player is a very athletic forward player who has a knack for perimeter shooting. Plus, he is also a cutting-edge threat on the defensive end as his blocking skills are already elite. 

However, the two greatest downsides in his game can be his off-the-dribble play and his lack of strength. Plus, his playmaking is nowhere close to what LaMelo Ball showcased last year and those are the areas where great coaching will help him.

As KP, who earlier struggled in pronouncing his name, added, “All you have to do is to be a star in your role. So when Steve Kerr, or whoever, that are teaching you on a day-to-day basis, they come to you and say, hey Moses, we expect you to do this, we want this at offensive end, defensively we expect his from you, just be a star in your role and everything else will fall in its place.”
