Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis kickstarted the bizarre trend of celebrities clamouring over themselves to announce that they only shower when they clearly stink.

Now, they’re poking fun at the situation, all while washing their children.

Who’d have thought?

Ashton, 43, who shares six-year-old daughter Wyatt and four-year-old son Dimitri with wife Mila, posted a video from the bathroom, proving that they do indeed bathe their kids.

Mila, 37, was seen supervising bath time with a towel in her hand, while their kids could be heard in the background.

The Bad Moms actress said: ‘It’s water’, with her husband saying in faux outrage: ‘You’re putting water on your children? Are you trying to melt them? Are you trying to injure them with water? This is ridiculous. What’s going on?’

Mila laughed: ‘We’re bathing our children’, with That 70’s Show star Ashton continuing: ‘That’s like the fourth time this week! Four times this week. Their body oils are going to be destroyed.’

Ashton captioned the video: ‘This bathing thing is out of hand. #KutcherBathroomTalks.’

The couple, who have been married for six years, sparked the showering debate after they appeared on Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast, and Mila responded to Dax’s claim that they should ‘not be getting rid of the natural oil on your skin with a bar of soap every day’.

She said: ‘I didn’t have hot water growing up as a child, so I didn’t shower much anyway. But when I had children, I also didn’t wash them every day. I wasn’t that parent that bathed my newborns – ever.’

Ashton agreed with his wife, saying: ‘Now, here’s the thing: If you can see the dirt on them, clean them. Otherwise, there’s no point.

‘I wash my armpits and my crotch daily, and nothing else ever. I got a bar of Lever 2000 that delivers every time. Nothing else.’

The stars did add that they washed their faces after workouts, but the comments were enough to get a Hollywood debate going on whether people wash themselves and their kids daily.

(Yep, silly season is in full flow.)

Kristen Bell, who has two daughters with Dax Shepard, said on The View: ‘I’m a big fan of waiting for the stink. Once you catch a whiff, that’s biology’s way of letting you know you need to clean it up.

‘There’s a red flag. Honestly, it’s just bacteria; once you get bacteria you gotta be like, “Get in the tub or the shower.” So, I don’t hate what [Mila and Ashton] are doing. I wait for the stink.’

Jake Gyllenhaal then told Vanity Fair that ‘more and more I find bathing to be less necessary, at times’, adding: ‘I do also think that there’s a whole world of not bathing that is also really helpful for skin maintenance, and we naturally clean ourselves.’

However, there are a lot more celebrities who are Team Bathing.

Jason Momoa said he’s a regular showerer because, you know, he’s Aquaman, while Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson went one further and revealed he showers three times a day.

Chris Evans, Terry Crews and Jodie Turner-Smith also assured fans they keep things clean, while Cardi B summed up the whole debate by tweeting: ‘Wassup with people saying they don’t shower? It’s giving itchy.’
