George Russell is one of the most talented drivers on the current F1 grid, many speculate that he would make the move to Mercedes for the 2022 season. The Brit impressed the Silver Arrows last season at Sakir when he stepped in for Lewis Hamilton, who contracted Covid-19.

The 23-year-old showed the Brackley-based squad what he is capable of; for some showing your talent to the most dominant team on the grid is an achievement. However, for Russell, there is another moment that holds a special place in his heart.

At the recent Hungarian Grand Prix, Williams managed to secure their first double points of the season. something the Grove-based outfit hasn’t been able to achieve since 2018. Hence, the Brit feels that this achievement with Williams is far greater than driving for Mercedes.

George Russell considers double points with Williams a “greater feeling”

Nicholas Latifi earned himself a seventh-place finish, while Russell took eighth place, they earned the team a total of ten points. Their first points of the season. So it shouldn’t be a surprise that the Brit considers this a special moment for Williams rather than the drive for the Silver Arrows, as they have been pushing themselves to earn such results.

Speaking to Andreas Haupt in an exclusive interview with Auto Motor Und Sport. The Williams driver said, “That was when I was thrown into the deep end. The circumstances were incredibly difficult. But I knew I had the car to do something good.”

“In my head, I immediately believed it. Now I know we have to get everything right, and even then, points are a bit out of reach. It feels like a win. Points with Williams are arguably the greater achievement,” Russell concluded.

The morale of the Grove-based outfit is high, after having a successful weekend at the Hungaroring, which saw them take home double points.

With the summer break now on, Latifi and Russell will be hoping to come back stronger and help Williams seize more points from the upcoming race at Spa for the Belgium GP, later this month.
