Nick Grimshaw’s final show on BBC Radio 1 will take place on Thursday, August 12 after 14 years with the station.

The legendary radio presenter, 36, announced at the end of June that he would be hanging up his headphones and leaving his dream job to pursue other ventures.

He tweeted at the time: ‘Some news I can finally share after giving it some thought for a while…. I have decided that after 14 years on air it’s time for me to leave Radio 1.

‘It was my childhood dream to work here and I have truly had the time of my life. But now is time for a change.

‘I want to thank you, the R1 listeners for joining me on this journey. Thank you for being a massive part of my life and sharing your lives with me on the radio every day.

‘Thank you for providing endless hilarity, passion and an unquenchable eagerness to ‘avvvvv it!’

Nick has so far remained tight-lipped about his next venture, telling the Oldham Times: ‘When you’re doing something every day, there’s never the space in your brain to think “What do I want to do next?”

‘It feels amazing to have been able to have a dream and to achieve it, but now I’ve got to think about what the next dream is.’

Nick, who has also been appearing on Celebrity Gogglebox alongside his niece Liv, is planning to do more radio and television work after some well-deserved time off.

He added to The Sun: ‘I really didn’t want to leave there and go straight into another job. I want to know what it feels like to not do a show every day. I have done a show every day for 12 years.’

Nick revealed that he will start work on a TV project on Tuesday next week, explaining: ‘I am going to do some telly and work on the ideas that I have had but I haven’t had time to develop or actually film.’

He had joined Radio 1 in 2007, hosting a show called Switch with Annie Mac, 43, who also left the station after 17 years in April.

Nick then took over the Breakfast Show from Chris Moyles, 47, in 2012 and moved to the Drivetime show six years later in 2018.

BBC bosses have chosen I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! runner-up Jordan North and Vick Hope to replace him on the airwaves in the afternoons, starting from September 6, 2021.

Speaking ahead of his last show, Nick told the Daily Mail: ‘My childhood dream was to work on Radio 1 and I have been lucky enough to make that dream come true.

‘It has been everything I’d imagined and even more. I grew up wanting to connect with people and to feel accepted and the Radio 1 listeners gave me that and let me be part of their daily life, for which I will be eternally grateful.

‘I’d like to thank the listeners as without them none of this could have been possible and the Radio 1 family, who have been such a huge part of my life. Thank you, thank you, thank you.’
