Tyson Fury and his wife Paris endured a terrifying ordeal when their newborn daughter Athena reportedly ‘died for three minutes’.

The heavyweight boxer welcomed Athena, his sixth child with Paris, on Sunday but the little one’s health deteriorated and taken to the intensive care unit at a hospital in Liverpool.

While the family asked their supporters for ‘prayers’, the public were unaware of how serious the situation was.

Tyson’s father John revealed the extent of Athena’s poor health and told BT Sport: ‘It’s been a bit of a white knuckle ride, we’ve had a lot to deal with. But we’ve come out on the other side due to professionalism of Alder Hey Hospital in Liverpool, they’re the best children’s hospital in the country if not the world.’

Continuing to heap praise on the medical team, John then revealed: ‘They’ve been really magnificent, they’ve really saved her life because she was dead for three minutes and they brought her back, it’s onwards and upwards from today.’

‘We thought at one stage we were going to lose her. But it’s all been good due to the professionalism of the doctors and the surgeons. Whoever works there is an amazing person and we’re so grateful to have them,’ John continued.

Tyson, 32, shared positive news regarding Athena’s latest developments on Wednesday, telling his Instagram followers: ‘Update for everyone. Baby Athena is doing well & has had a stable day off ventilator, thanks to everyone for the prayers, still in ICU for now.

‘Thanks to all the DRs & nurses. God bless you all.’

Earlier in the day, Tyson, 32, had shared a video of the tot and told his supporters: ‘My beautiful baby girl this morning. More awake now and sucking her dummy.’

When announcing Athena’s arrival last weekend, the sportsman sparked concern when he asked fans to ‘pray’ for his baby girl.

Athena is Tyson and Paris’ sixth child together, as they are already parents to daughters Venezuela, 10, and Valencia Amber, two, and sons Prince Adonis, one, Prince Tyson, three, and Prince John James, seven.

Amid his daughter’s health battle, the two-time world heavyweight champion is raising money for Alder Hey Family House Trust, which runs Ronald McDonald House at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital and helps provide rooms for the families of sick children.

Tyson is raffling off two signed WBC belts, and a GoFundMe has already raised nearly £28,000 for the trust.
