WATCH: Horror Crash at Watkins Glen for David Ragan and David Reutimann

Back in 2011, there was a massive accident during the Cup Series race at Watkins Glen. At Turn 2 on the final lap, Boris Said bumped the #6 car of David Ragan and sent him into the wall. Ragan ricocheted off it and came right in the trajectory of a startled David Reutimann in the #00 car.

Reutimann got sent to the wall on the other side, and his car flipped and went airborne. The impact was so bad that the car ended up on its roof.

Surprisingly, the accident did not bring out a caution flag, even though debris was scattered all over the track. However, the yellow flags made an appearance when Tony Stewart spun out of control at the Inner Loop.

Who won the race while David Reutimann crashed?

While all the chaos was going on, Marcos Ambrose went on to win the race under the yellow flag. Brad Keselowski finished second, ahead of  Kyle Busch, Mark Martin, and Ryan Newman. It is worth mentioning that the race got delayed until Monday due to poor weather conditions.

Truthfully speaking, the race played out in such a manner that many were expecting Busch and Ambrose to duke it out. Sadly, Paul Menard triggered a caution when his car suddenly blew a tire and pitched him into the wall. Owing to this, many were gearing up for a green-white-checkered restart with the entire field bunched together.

Unfortunately, the Reutimann and Ragan incident ensured that Ambrose went unchallenged to the finish line. This is because nobody was allowed to overtake under the caution period. Admittedly, it was an anticlimactic end to the race, but Marcos Ambrose was not complaining.
